It’s of common knowledge that Gerardo “Tata” Martino has two solid ideas as Mexico National Team coach: to not play with younger players and trying to have the most similar starting XI throughout the games El Tri faces.
This former USMNT coach could arrive in El Tri
But if rumors are true, “Tata” Martino will have to break both of those ideas before the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, as one of his favorite players finally understood he no longer brings help to El Tri rather than taking a space from a player that can boost El Tri’s performances.
Andrés Guardado has thought about stepping down from El Tri for a while, but he’s now decided to put an end to his stint with the Aztec squad. According to reports, the 35-year-old midfielder already told Martino and FMF about his decision of retiring from El Tri soon.
If Andrés Guardado ends up retiring before Qatar 2022, the player that could take his place is Marcelo Flores, as his addition to the Aztec squad will be an instant upgrade. Rumors suggest that the 18-year-old is been closely followed by FC Barcelona.
