Mexico National Team will face the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window next week, when El Tri receives USMNT on March 24 in Estadio Azteca, then will visit Honduras on March 27 and will close their participation receiving El Salvador on March 30.
The players that finally won’t be part of Mexico National Team for the upcoming FIFA match window
The last two games seem like the perfect opportunity to secure their place in Qatar 2022 once and for all, avoiding the playoff game to be held in June against an Oceania national team, as both Honduras and El Salvador are already eliminated from the contest.
That leaves the first game of the match window as the true challenge for the Aztec squad, not only because they will have the opportunity of finally beat USMNT after three straight losses against them, but also to show that they still are the CONCACAF Giant.
Gerardo “Tata” Martino knows that it’s their chance of prove that they’re ready to compete against any team, but he also knows that is a good opportunity for trying new players that could be of use for the rest of the year and maybe be part of the final roster that El Tri will have for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The list opens with Jesús Angulo, as the 24-year-old right-back has showed enough consistency with both Tigres, his current team, and Atlas, where he was an essential player on their search for the second Liga MX title in Los Zorros history.
Santiago Giménez finally got his chance of playing for Mexico National Team in an official match, replacing the injured Rogelio Funes Mori, although if “Chaquito” keeps up the good performances he’s had with Cruz Azul recently, he’ll be able to steal Funes Mori’s place for good and will become the perfect complement for Raúl Jiménez.
Israel Reyes is another player that deserved the call a long time ago, as he had played just once with El Tri on the friendly match that they had against Chile last December but has been playing at a top level for over a year, since Nicolás Larcamón arrived in Club Puebla.
The 21-year-old defender has established as an essential player for La Franja, and his versatility -he can play either as a center back, right-back or defensive midfielder- will be a great asset for the scheme that Martino usually uses.
The biggest absentees that Gerardo Martino didn’t want to have in Mexico National Team
