Mexico National Team will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador for the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, in three games that will be played as finals given the importance of earning points to access directly to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
After the victory over Chivas, will Nicolás Larcamón arrive in Mexico National Team?
Gerardo “Tata” Martino will keep the structure of his roster, as he doesn’t plan of having big surprises, which will mean that Guillermo Ochoa, although he and Club América are going through a hard time, will be the starting goalkeeper.
Carlos Acevedo currently is one of the best active goalkeepers in Mexican soccer, something he proved over and over again on Santos Laguna victory over Cruz Azul on Sunday night, as he was the Man of the Match after he prevented La Máquina from scoring and even stopped a penalty kick.
But not even his outstanding performance has gotten him the attention of El Tri coach, although he doesn’t lose his sleep over it, as he said during a postgame interview that his moment “will arrive when the time is right.”
Carlos Acevedo has played just for Santos Laguna since starting his professional career, as he was also part of their academy teams. So far, he’s played a total of 97 games wearing the Guerreros colors, in which he has 35 clean sheets. He’s also won a Liga MX titles, although he wasn’t the starting goalkeeper.
The game against USMNT will be the decisive point for the rest of the 2022 cycle, as Martino and El Tri have lost three straight games against the Bars and Stripes, the last defeat in the first leg of the CONCACAF Qualifiers which also jeopardized El Tri’s participation in Qatar.
For the three games, Ochoa was part of the starting XI and wasn’t able to prevent his goal from falling, as he received six goals in total, while Gregg Berhalter’s squad managed to keep two clean sheets, as they just received two goals.
