Mexico National Team has ensured their participation in the 2022 FIFA World Cup after facing El Salvador in the last game of the CONCACAF Qualifiers, as the Salvadorians jumped to the pitch of Estadio Azteca with a passive attitude.
Carlos Vela who? Mexico could have one of the world soccer gems thanks to the Argentine coach
With the positive result on Wednesday night, The Mexican national team will play their 8th straight World Cup, joining Brazil as the only two teams that have accomplished it, although Brazil have reached the final in three occasions and El Tri hasn’t reached the quarterfinals.
When the Mexican Football Federation first hired Gerardo “Tata” Martino, they did it with the idea of finally breaking the 4th-game barrier, and for the first couple of years it looked possible, as they only lost one game, but since the CONCACAF Nations League, El Tri has performed irregular and has the idea of reaching quarterfinals now looks distant.
Although the players are also involved in the poor production of El Tri, the main responsible seems to be Martino himself, and even if FMF and Liga MX owners are considering parting ways with him before Qatar 2022, he won’t be the first to leave El Tri’s structure.
According to reports from W Deportes, Yon de Luisa, even if has considered parting ways with the Argentine coach, knows that his departure won’t change a thing in the long run, as he only is involved in the results of the senior squad.
That’s why he’s considering ending things with Gerardo Torrado, who is the National Teams director and oversees the functioning of all the national teams, from the academy squads to the senior team and the female soccer team.
The decision of sacking Torrado first instead of Martino has to do with the fact that the process of the academy teams has been stuck for a while, as the young prospects don’t really have an opportunity of growing with the senior squad.
The same reports suggest that Santiago Baños, Club América chairman, will be the replacement that De Luisa is considering, as he has a good relationship with him and with Miguel Herrera, which is why he wouldn’t oppose to having “El Piojo” as El Tri’s coach in Qatar 2022.
