Even if Mexico National Team has ensured their presence at least in the playoffs for Qatar 2022, the way they’ve been playing for the last year keeps worrying both Gerardo “Tata” Martino and the Mexican Football Federation.
How much money did Gerardo Martino earn for the victory of Mexico against Honduras?
On Sunday evening they had the perfect opportunity to finally answer al the criticism they’ve received since November, when they jeopardized their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but they couldn’t make a statement and instead, the questions kept growing.
The fact that the Aztec squad couldn’t score more than one goal against the worst team on the last stage of the CONCACAF Qualifiers, says a lot about the issues that Gerardo Martino hasn’t been able to resolve and that will afflict El Tri until November.
That’s why the Mexican Football Federation are looking for potential replacements for Martino in case the Aztecs don’t ensure direct passage to the World Cup, as El Tri still needs to draw or win against El Salvador to remain as third in the Qualifiers.
Ricardo Ferretti is one of the most experienced coaches in Mexican soccer, as he started coaching in 1991 after having played in Liga MX for 14 years. Since becoming Pumas’ coach in the 1991-92 season, he hasn’t had a single year where he wasn’t coaching a team.
He currently is coaching FC Juárez, although during an interview with TV Azteca he said that he wants to coach the Mexican national team, something he’s done in the past but just as an interim coach, given that he doesn’t want to deal with all the bureaucracy involved in FMF.
That’s why his first decision, if FMF decided to hire him to replace Gerardo Martino, will be demanding a change in the structure, where the executives don’t have the power that they have now, and that soccer becomes the real priority.
One of the things that he has criticized the most is the MEXTOUR, as he believes that the games that El Tri has to play annually in the United States to fulfill their contract don’t apport a thing to the sporting improvement of the team, which is why he will request to end the tour on the US, even if it costs FMF $10 million per year.
Gerardo Martino will stay in the Mexican national team and this player decided to quit
