While some people keep asking for Carlos Vela’s return to Mexico National Team even after the 32-year-old right-winger already confirmed that he’s retired from El Tri and will not play again with the Aztec colors, there’s Mexican players silently working to earn a chance to play for El Tri.
El Tri already lost a player for Qatar 2022
That’s what currently is happening with Samuel Mendoza, who in 2020 had the opportunity of training for a week with FC Barcelona academy teams in Spain, as part of an international program in which Barça gives the chance to some players of their academy clubs around the world to get closer to the club.
Reports suggest that Mendoza already signed a contract with the Blaugranas, although the 17-year-old still plays for the Barcelona academy team in Arizona, given that he’s still underage and FIFA prevents him from arriving to Europe before he turns 18.
Mendoza was born in the United States in 2004 after a Mexican father, which means he can play for either Mexico National Team or USMNT. So far, Mendoza has been part of El Tri U-15 squad, and he wishes to one day play for the senior squad.
