With the news of Carlos Vela’s official retirement from Mexico National Team amidst a wave of rumors that were placing him back on Gerardo Martino’s roster, now the question of who will Martino call if not the same old players?
Carlos Vela thinks it’s time to give younger players the chance of playing with El Tri
Reports suggested that Vela was close on returning to El Tri, given that his contract with Los Angeles FC is expiring during the summer and he was ready to move to Liga MX in order to fight for a spot for the World Cup, and Martino was considering calling him to shake things a bit in El Tri camp.
But now, it seems that Martino will remain stuck with the players that he calls every FIFA match window, even if there’s young promising players like Marcelo Flores who are playing at a high level and even FC Barcelona is eyeing his progress.
Gerardo Martino called Flores for the last friendly match that Mexico National Team played in 2021, where the 18-year-old offensive midfielder played 10 minutes. The problem with Martino is that he doesn’t like to call young players as they don’t have enough experience on decisive moments.
Will “Chicharito” follow Carlos Vela’s steps and retire from Mexico National Team?
