Right when the rumors of his returning to Mexico National Team were stronger, as his contract with Los Angeles FC is ending soon and Liga MX clubs are looking to sign him for next season, Carlos Vela closed the door to any possibility of seeing him again wearing El Tri colors.

Carlos Vela was asking for three player to join him in El Tri, but Martino refused

During an interview with ESPN, Vela said that he feels that he can’t contribute anymore to El Tri, and that at 32, he has just a couple of years left to play on the same level he’s playing now, which is why he felt it was his time to step down from the Aztec squad.

It’s yet to be seen if he arrives in Liga MX after his contract with LAFC expires in the summer or if he remains in MLS, but he was clear about not playing again for Mexico National Team, as he also knows that, as long as Gerardo Martino is the coach, he won’t have the chance he wanted.

Why there’s a reason worth $2 million keeping him away for good?

Vela knows that with “Tata” Martino’s disciplinary measures, he’s not going to be able to focus on his family, as “Tata” prohibited any visitors in El Tri camp. But FMF is trying to extend Martino’s contract with El Tri until 2026 for $2 million per year, which shuts down any chances of Vela’s return.
