Even if the game won’t be of much use to the overall improvement of the Aztec squad, Gerardo “Tata” Martino will use it to tryout new players that have been on his radar and that could end up sneaking in the final roster.

Martino knows that he needs to find a few players in key roles, especially on the offense and the midfield, given that the usual players on those positions have been underperforming for a while and the presence of new, younger players will increase the competition for the starting role.

Amongst the players that he considered for next week’s match, Marcelo Flores and Sebastián Córdova are two that stand out the most, given their offensive conditions, which opens the following question: who is going to receive Martino’s blessing and wear the number 10?

Who is closer to Qatar 2022?

Even if they have different conditions, given that both players are offensive midfielders, Martino will have to incline for either one of them to be on the starting XI on Wednesday night. Although that doesn’t mean that, in the long run, that player is going to be closer to make it to Qatar 2022.

According to reports from sports journalist Felipe Morales, given the process he’s had, as well as his age and the trust that Martino has showed in him in the past, Sebastián Córdova will be the player that wears the number 10 against Guatemala.

Even if Marcelo Flores is used to wear the number 10 in the U-20 squad, he knows that he has a long way to go not only until he’s considered as a regular player in El Tri’s roster, but also until he can wear the number 10 jersey in the senior squad.

Will Marcelo make it to Qatar 2022?

A few weeks ago, the Arsenal offensive midfielder said that he has two goals to fulfill in 2022. The first one is to debut in Premier League, something he is close to achieve. The second one is to play in Qatar 2022, something that he’ll manage to do if he becomes a regular in Mikel Arteta’s roster.
