It seems like Gerardo “Tata” Martino finally understood that if he wants to remain in Mexico National Team until the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he’s going to make some changes in the roster he will call for the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifiers match window.
This Mexican player will play his fifth consecutive game as a starter for this European team
The next three games will not only define the teams that will play in Qatar 2022, but also his future in El Tri’s dugout, as another defeat against USMNT will mean the end of his stint with the Aztec squad, given that he already lost three straight games against the Bars and Stripes.
But if Mexico National Team wins, it will mean ending with the USMNT hegemony of recent games and the ticket to the World Cup, as they will retake the second place in CONCACAF, leaving the Bars and Stripes as third.
That’s why Martino is considering leaving out of the roster one of his favorite players since he became available to wear El Tri colors, as Rogelio Funes Mori won’t be part of the list of players that will play in the next FIFA match window.
Outside the sporting reasons, he was marked after he was involved in an argument after his return from the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup, where he said Mexico was the worst country in the world after he was asked to pay a penalty fee for overweight on his luggage.
When the news broke, the backlash in social media didn’t wait and he was criticized by Mexican followers, saying that he didn’t deserve to play for El Tri after his ungrateful attitude. In FMF they didn’t like his response, which is why they requested to leave him out of the roster.
Funes Mori is also going through a bad streak that also has touched everyone in Monterrey, as they haven’t been able to show why they’re the most expensive roster in Liga MX. But for Funes Mori, that crisis has translated in a lack of goals, as he’s score three in seven games Monterrey has played in Clausura 2022.
Reports suggest that the forward that will fill his spot for the upcoming FIFA match window will be Santiago Giménez, as the 20-year-old striker has left behind the drought, given that he’s becoming an essential player for La Máquina, scoring two goals and assisting one time in the last three matches.
Luka Romero won’t play for Mexico National Team, but this striker does wants to represent El Tri
