Robert Lewandowski didn’t have much to do on the 1-1 draw that got Bayern Munich eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals, as Villarreal played a perfect game, defending for most of the game and taking advantage of the only clear played that they had in the match.
The 2-1 aggregate gave the Submarino Amarillo a spot in the semifinals of the Champions in what could be the last game that Robert Lewandoski played in the European tournament wearing the Bayern Munich colors.
After reports from Polish and Spanish outlets indicated that Robert Lewandowski has agreed to join FC Barcelona for the 2022-23 La Liga season, Bayern Munich have started looking for a potential replacement for the Polish striker.
Different sources points towards the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raúl Jiménez as the striker that Bayern will pursue to replace Lewandowski for the next season, something that could benefit the Mexican striker, as a fresh start might be what he needs to recover his scoring streak.
Raúl Jiménez joined Wolves for the 2018-19 Premier League Season when the team from Molineaux Stadium got promoted from the Football League Championship after finishing the season as leaders of Championship, with 92 points.
Since then, “El Lobo de Tepeji” has become one of the recent idols of Wolves followers. Wolves have refused to sell him in previous seasons, as Bayern Munich already tried to acquire him in 2020, although back then he wasn’t a priority.
Now, even if his shape has diminished after being out of the pitches for nine months, Jiménez is still one of the most lethal strikers, mainly if it is from the penalty mark, as he’s only failed four penalty kicks in his career. But Wolves are willing to let him go for the right price, especially if they don’t manage to end the season in a spot that gives them access to an European tournament.
According to Transfermarkt, Raúl Jiménez’s market value is set at $24 million, although Bayern know that Wolves won’t sell one of their best players for the minimum, which is why they have prepared a first offer of $28 million, as they want to acquire him no matter how.
Gerardo Martino finally understood and has found a replacement for Héctor Herrera
