Carlos Acevedo is the Mexican goalkeeper of the moment, not only for what he’s done with Santos Laguna but also because he finally received his first call-up to an official game of Mexico National Team, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino didn’t have any other choice.
Carlos Acevedo already had his first problem with Guillermo Ochoa in Mexico National Team
Since becoming the starting goalkeeper of Santos in 2020, he’s been one of the most consistent goalkeepers of Liga MX alongside the Paraguayan Antony Silva from Club Puebla and the Colombian Camilo Vargas from Atlas.
It was incomprehensible that Gerardo Martino hadn’t considered him earlier, as his only appearance in a game with El Tri was on a friendly match against Chile. But now, he’s not only made a name for himself in El Tri’s camp, but also could be receiving the best news for his future thanks to RB Leipzig.
According to reports, Bundesliga side RB Leipzig is refusing to extend the loan of the Cameroonian goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, who currently plays in Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, as his loan expires at the end of the current season.
PSV has tried to negotiate for a loan extension, but Leipzig is set to have Mvogo back for the 2022-23 season. This could put PSV in a tight spot if it wasn’t for the fact that, while scouting Alexis Vega, they were impressed with Acevedo’s skills.
It’s yet to be seen if he ends up leaving Santos Laguna at the end of the season, as he’s under contract with Los Guerreros until 2025. But if PSV wants to acquire the 25-year-old goalkeeper, they’re going to have to pay $5.5 million for his economic transfer.
