The news was confirmed by the Ecuadorian Football Federation, which also provided the date on which both teams will meet, to prepare for the next World Cup.

According to Gabriel Wainer, technical secretary of the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation, the match will be played next Sunday, June 5 in Chicago, the United States. 

The Mexican National Team has not yet made the announcement but it is expected that in the next few hours they will release the information including the stadium where the game will be played and the time. 

According to the Ecuadorian official, "The duel will take place on June 5 in Chicago, in June we will have three matches in the United States, in September there will be two matches in Europe".

He also explained that "Some other rivals have been changed for sporting reasons, but the duel against Mexico was already scheduled for June 5". 

Thus, these matches will also be used by Mexico's coach, Gerardo "Tata" Martino, to prepare the Mexican team for its commitment to the Nations League, a tournament in which El Tri will face the teams of Suriname and Jamaica.

So far, Mexico has beaten Ecuador's national soccer team on more occasions, if we take into account the total number of matches that both teams have played over the years. 

According to information from the specialized website 11v11, these teams have played on 25 occasions in which the Mexicans have won on 17 occasions, while the Ecuadorians have won on 4 occasions.

And in 4 clashes both teams have ended tied, so Mexico has the advantage in terms of numbers.

The first time the two teams met was on February 5, 1997, in a friendly match won by the Mexican National Team with a score of 3-1. 

And the last time the two teams met was on July 1, 2007, when Mexico defeated the Ecuadorians by a score of 2-1. 

But if the Ecuadorian national team is characterized by anything, it is for two things: for being a tough team and for knowing Mexican soccer very well, since many Ecuadorian players play in Liga MX.
