Mexico National Team will face Nigeria on Saturday night in the first friendly game that El Tri will have with the 36-man roster that Gerardo “Tata” Martino called-up, and from which he’ll define most of the players for the final roster for Qatar 2022.
Mexico National Team has their first confirmed player for Qatar 2022, but he bought his place
One of the things that Martino needs to solve is the lack of a striker that can score consistently, as neither Raúl Jiménez, Henry Martín, nor Rogelio Funes Mori were able to score, with the latter even losing his place on the roster for the upcoming games.
Although Javier “Chicharito” Hernández confirmed that he was in conversations with the Argentine coach, Martino has a list of three other strikers above the LA Galaxy forward, as he already called-up Santiago Giménez, who is positioning as the third striker in the roster.
The second striker on the list is Julio Furch, who according to reports from sports journalist David Medrano is waiting to receive his naturalization letter, the last thing left that he needs to be part of the Aztec squad, as he never played with Argentina and has lived for seven years in Mexican soil.
The last striker on the list Santos Laguna forward Eduardo “Mudo” Aguirre, who has two caps during Martino’s stint as El Tri coach and recently returned to the roster, as he was part of the alternative team that faced Guatemala back in April.
