Fear is growing around the Mexican National Team: what are the health problems that compromise Martino and could make him resign from El Tri?
Mexico vs El Salvador: What will Martino's strategy be in the decisive CONCACAF 2022 qualifier?
In recent days, there have been reports that Miguel Herrera could take his place due to Gerardo "Tata" Martino's health problems.
However, not everyone knows what is happening with the Argentinean coach, who since this Concacaf World Cup Qualifying Round has had problems attending matches in Costa Rica and Panama, and more recently in Honduras.
Gerardo "Tata" Martino suffers from a retinal detachment in his right eye, a condition that consists of the separation of the light-sensitive membrane of the eyeball from the back of that organ.
When this happens to a person, vision can be altered and causes the sufferer to have blurred vision, so when this happens to you, you should see an ophthalmologist immediately.
A specialist should be consulted since this condition is serious, as it can cause total loss of vision, which explains the urgency of the Mexican National Team to look for a new coach for the FIFA World Cup.
The first time Martino had to deal with this was in September 2021, when Mexico had its presence in the Final Octagonal.
After the match against Jamaica at the Azteca Stadium, the coach went for an emergency check-up, where he was banned from traveling to Costa Rica and Panama.
And it was there that the Mexican press learned about Martino's problem for the first time. As a result, the Mexican National Team released a statement explaining why Martino could not make the trip to Honduras.
"Despite having all the necessary care, in the month of February he again presented problems in the same retina so he underwent a new procedure on February 11, with an estimated recovery time of six weeks," the bulletin detailed.
"The new treatment and not having the corresponding medical discharge prevent the strategist from traveling by plane in order to avoid a serious risk to his vision.
Jorge Theiler, under the close supervision of Tata Martino, will be in charge of the match against Honduras. Martino will be on the bench for the match against El Salvador," the statement concluded.
It is now rumored that Miguel Herrera, current head coach of Tigres of Liga MX, will replace Gerardo Martino as head coach of the Mexican National Team.
Although there is still no official announcement from El Tri, the rumor has gained momentum after an interview with Herrera, in which he talked about the players who should step aside from the National Team.
