The Concacaf World Cup Qualifiers are about to begin and the Mexican National Soccer Team called up Carlos Acevedo, who is expected to make his debut against the USMNT on March 24.
Acevedo's call-up came because Jonathan Orozco, the goalkeeper of Xolos de Tijuana is injured and will not be available for Gerardo Martino.
Therefore, Acevedo could make his date with history this Thursday, March 24.
Carlos Acevedo López is a Mexican soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Club Santos Laguna of Liga MX, and who for the first time will be a full international with the Mexican National Soccer Team.
The 25-year-old player was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico on April 19, 1996, and started his career as a soccer player when he was ten years old with the sixth division team of Club Santos Laguna.
Although he played for 5 years for the institution in the lower categories, he decided to leave the club but would return later to join the Under 17 category.
However, the player was dismissed from the team, and among the various reasons, his short stature was mentioned, however, because the bus of the Under 17 team suffered an accident, the player was called back by the club.
In the following season he earned his place in the Under 20 squad and in 2016, he fulfilled his dream of making his debut in the First Division of Mexican Football, on August 20, 2016, in the defeat of Santos against Cruz Azul by a score of 3-1.
Acevedo became a starter in the Guardianes 2020 Tournament after the sale of Jonathan Orozco to Club Tijuana and the arrival of Gibran Lajud to the team.
With Santos Laguna, Acevedo was crowned champion of the 2018 Clausura Tournament on May 20, defeating Toluca in the final by a 3-2 aggregate score.
Yes, he has been called up before, it was in December 2021 that he received his first call-up to the senior national team, to play a friendly match against the Chilean National Soccer Team.
However, this week's call-up is the first in which the player has been called to play an official match with Gerardo Martino's Mexican national team.
If for some reason Guillermo Ochoa is unable to play for El Tri in the match on Thursday, March 24, it would be the long-awaited opportunity for Carlos Acevedo.
It would mean not only his debut in the Mexican national soccer team but also the crowning of a very young but dedicated soccer career.
