Without playing a single minute in the Qualifiers, he could play in Qatar with Mexico National Team

The Liga MX team faced Mazatlán FC for the round 13 of Clausura 2022 in a game that ended with a 1-1 draw after La Máquina saved most of their starting players for the second leg of the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League of Tuesday night against Pumas.

Juan Reynoso knew that he needed to give rest to some of the players that have appeared constantly on his starting XI, which is why he kept benched players like Santiago Giménez, Erik Lira or Uriel Antuna, although that didn’t stop him from starting Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez, who has been one of the best players for Cruz Azul.

Unfortunately, the 25-year-old midfielder had to leave the game after receiving a kick on the leg during the first half. Later, it was confirmed that “Charly” Rodríguez suffered a cracked fibula and will be out of the pitches for at least three months.

He’ll miss the Mextour and Nations League games

Even if he can recover sooner, La Máquina medical staff says that he could be ready in six weeks, ready to the final of Liga MX if Cruz Azul makes it that far, Gerardo “Tata” Martino won’t risk his health, which is why he’ll miss the next six games that Mexico National Team plays.

His absence will open the door for Marcelo Flores, as Martino won’t have any excuses to call him for at least give him the chance of playing during the friendly matches that El Tri will play in the United States to integrate to the roster.

Even if he plays a few minutes during the Mextour, it will give him an opportunity to learn from El Tri’s most experienced players, as well as facing some of the best Sout American teams, a soccer style different to the one he’s used to play.

Will he arrive at Qatar 2022?

Reports suggest that Martino will call him for the friendly game against Nicaragua at the end of April, suggesting that he’s getting closer to be part of the squad that will play in Qatar. If Flores debuts in Premier League and manages to have minutes regularly, he’ll be part of the 26-men roster of El Tri.
