There’s no doubt that Nicolás Larcamón has established himself as one of the best Liga MX coaches since he arrived in Club Puebla for Clausura 2021, as he’s helped La Franja return to the top standings in Liga MX, especially for Clausura 2022, where La Franja currently is leader.

Héctor Herrera could be playing his last game with El Tri in March

His small but impressive resumé has made FMF and Mexico National Team to have him on their radar to replace Gerardo “Tata” Martino if he doesn’t manage to win the games of the last FIFA match window, when El Tri receives USMNT and El Salvador, and visits Honduras.

He’s said that it would be a dream to coach a National Team like El Tri, as they’re always contenders, which is why Yon de Luisa is considering him to replace Martino, although not everyone in El Tri is happy with that decision.

Who doesn’t like the idea of Larcamón in El Tri?

According to the former soccer player and sports journalist Rubén Rodríguez, Andrés Guardado doesn’t like the idea of having Nicolás Larcamón as El Tri’s new coach, given that Larcamón is known for playing with young players, something that could prevent Guardado to play as much as he’s playing now with Gerardo Martino.

It’s yet to be seen if Nicolás arrives in El Tri’s dugout, but if it happens, Guardado would consider retiring earlier from Mexico National Team, not only because he’d see his playing time diminished, but also as a sign of loyalty with Martino.

Club Puebla’s performance with Larcamón as their coach

Club Puebla has been leader for four straight weeks in Clausura, a record for the club since the short tournaments were established in 1996. But that’s not the most impressing thing that the “Larcaboys” have accomplished, as they are in line for playing in Liguilla for the fourth straight season.

Although in the first Liguilla of the streak Larcamón hadn’t arrived yet in La Franja dugout, he managed to improve what Juan Reynoso had done with the team, even after losing some essential players for Puebla in recent years, like Omar Fernández, Salvador Reyes and Cristian Tabó.
