Carlos Vela hasn’t been called to Mexico National Team since El Tri lost 2-0 against Brazil and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He has yet to play a game with Gerardo “Tata” Martino on the bench.
El Tri will have the chance of replace Martino with this top coach
But as he’s preparing to play his fifth season in MLS as a Designated Player for Los Angeles FC, rumors have started to link him to some of the most powerful Liga MX clubs, as his contract with LAFC will expire over the summer.
Carlos Vela has previously stated that he’d like to play again for El Tri, and he knows that his best chance of having “Tata” Martino’s interest is if he returns to Liga MX. So far, Tigres, Monterrey, Club América, Chivas and even Cruz Azul have shown interest in the 32-year-old right winger.
But as word is starting to spread about his desire to wear El Tri colors again, some current players have shown their disagree with his return, and Andrés Guardado could be the first player to step down from El Tri if Vela is called again to play for Mexico National Team.
