After a disappointing 2021 for Mexico National Team and its coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, where they lost three games in a row against their biggest CONCACAF rival, USMNT, and almost losing a spot in FIFA Qualifiers for the World Cup, Martino has realized he needs to do changes for this year’s fixtures.

He decided to stop calling this player after the defender requested not to be called as part of the Olympic team for personal reasons, but after losing CONCACAF’s top place in FIFA ranking and in a desperate move to save his job and El Tri’s future, he will remove the veto he imposed and call him back to the games Mexico will play on late January and early February.

Gerardo Arteaga has had an outstanding season so far with his team KRC Genk in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, and given he plays as a left-back, a position El Tri always has troubles taking care of, his return to Mexico National Team should be immediate, especially if they want to secure a spot for Qatar 2022.
