Mexico National Team hasn’t ensured their arrival in the 2022 FIFA World Cup given the irregular results that they have had in the past year, as the defeats against USMNT and Canada MNT meant losing the chance of securing their ticket on the past FIFA match window.
The player that will retire if Gerardo Martino is sacked from Mexico National Team
Now, El Tri will have to visit Honduras looking to earn the three points that finally will give them the ticket to Qatar 2022 and with it the calm to face the last game against El Salvador knowing that they can start preparing for November.
But El Tri will face La H without their coach on the dugout, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino didn’t travel with the squad to Honduras given a health condition, which can also jeopardize his arrival to the World Cup if his health doesn’t improve.
That’s why the Mexican Football Federation are looking for a potential replacement, added to the fact that they still have questions about the future of El Tri with Martino on the bench, as the recent irregularity could prevent them from having a good participation in Qatar.
According to reports, one of the coaches that has more possibilities of replacing the Argentine coach and taking over El Tri is Miguel Herrera, as he already knows what it means to arrive in El Tri on the last months of a world cup cycle to straighten the way.
Herrera currently is coaching Liga MX side Tigres, and even if he had a tough time establishing his system with Los Felinos, they are finally thriving and have become one of the strongest contenders to win Clausura 2022.
“El Piojo” first arrived in El Tri in 2013, where he helped the Aztec squad to access the 2014 FIFA World Cup after defeating New Zealand in the playoffs. Herrera left El Tri on bad terms in 2015, after getting into a fight with a TV commentator.
Miguel Herrera is one of the most recognizable people in Mexican soccer, something he has taken advantage of to promote diverse things on his social media, especially at the start of the pandemicc, including a flower shop his family owns.
