After a breakout season with Club León in 2013, where he was back-to-back champion and a having performed good both in CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013 and FIFA World Cup in 2014, he arrived to Chivas on a $8.5 million transfer, where he was set to become a star and maybe even make the jump to European soccer.

But the scandals and problems outside the pitch diminished his career until a point where he was found passed out drunk on the hotel’s pool his team was staying prior a game, an incident that got Carlos “Gullit” Peña fired from Cruz Azul.

He even had the chance to gain regularity and getting back on track when he played in Scottland side Glasgow Rangers and then in Polish second division team GKS Tychy, where he shut the door himself after not reporting back to the team during the 2019/2020 preseason.

What happened to “Gullit” Peña?

His last team in Mexico was Correcaminos FC, from Liga de Expansión, Tier II division, where he played in 2020. He then joined El Salvador side Club Deportivo FAS in 2021 where he was champion of Salvadorian league. Peña currently plays for Guatemalan side Antigua GFC, where he’s played 12 games so far and scored 5 goals.
