It’s no lie to say that Mexico National Team and USMNT have increased the competition to convince young players with dual nationalities to play for them, as there are several young, talented prospects that hold both Mexican and American citizenships.
The reaction of Mexico National Team followers after watching the Argentina vs Italy
In recent months, El Tri has been the team that has convinced more players, including Jonathan Gómez, who already had his first cap with the senior team and was called up to play with the U-20 squad, David Ochoa, and more recently Richard Ledezma.
But one of the biggest talents that decided to represent USMNT instead of the Mexican squad was Ricardo Pepi, who on his first two caps for the Stars and Stripes managed to score three goals and had one assistance.
But since then, he hasn’t been able to transcend, as he couldn’t score with FC Augsburg on the 11 games that he played with them since joining the Bundesliga side at the start of the winter transfer window, team that paid a transfer-record fee for a player grown in the MLS.
Although he arrived as a star at Bundesliga, the 19-year-old forward was quickly demoted to a secondary role in Augsburg, who were fighting to avoid getting relegated for the 2022-23, as he wasn’t able to adapt to European soccer.
As if that wasn’t enough, the last time that he scored was on September 30, with his former team MLS side FC Dallas, something that has started worrying Gregg Berhalter, who now has erased him from the US soccer MNT given his poor contributions and now is on the brink of missing the World Cup.
