Mexican Football Federation is not yet convinced of keeping Gerardo “Tata” Martino as their coach for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, even if they managed to earn 7 out of the 9 available points last FIFA match window.
Miguel Herrera was asking for too much money to become the next El Tri coach
But inside FMF are worried that the lack of goals and recent performances won’t help El Tri to finally play a fifth game in Qatar 2022, that’s why they’re looking for a replacement for Martino. At first, Miguel Herrera was the chosen one, but he declined.
Now, they were close to an agreement with Jaime Lozano, but when the Mexican coach knew that he wasn’t going to build the roster with the players he wanted, as sponsors will keep imposing players like Andrés Guardado or Guillermo Ochoa, he decided to decline the offer and continue his career elsewhere.
According to reports, Lozano was waiting to see what happened with El Tri before taking a decision. Now, the 43-year-old coach will continue his career after a 6-month break in Liga MX, where he’ll become the next coach of Necaxa, as los Rayos just parted ways with Pablo Guede.
Carlos Vela wants to return to El Tri but only if this coach replaces Gerardo Martino
