One of the most regular players in Mexico National Team since the 2006 World Cup in Germany is Guillermo Ochoa, who has played a total of 122 games for El Tri since debuting in 2005 in a friendly match against Hungary.

During the 16 years he’s been Mexico’s goalkeeper, a lot of goalkeepers have tried to steal his place with El Tri, but so far, no one has succeeded. Even when he was on his lowest, no other goalkeeper was performing better than Ochoa.

Antonio Rodríguez was one of Mexico’s most promising goalkeepers, but having Ochoa as the starter, he was never able to earn his place with El Tri. He was only called to 6 games with the senior squad, but never got to debut. He’s still playing soccer, as he’s Querétaro goalkeeper, but Rodríguez also decided to open a sushi restaurant in Guadalajara, his hometown.

Where has Rodríguez played?

After debuting with Chivas in 2011, he was loaned to the extinct Veracruz FC for the 2011/2012 season. He was back with Chivas for 5 years until he was loaned on back-to-back short loans to Club León and then to Club Tijuana. For the 2018/2019 season he was loaned to Lobos BUAP, and prior to Clausura 2022 he was finally sold to Querétaro.
