One of the things that Gerardo “Tata” Martino has been criticized the most since his arrival in Mexico National Team is the fact that he doesn’t call young players, given that he doesn’t believe that they have enough experience to be part of the senior squad.

But his decision has also made some players that haven’t been considered to close the door to Mexico National Team in the future and instead looking to play for another National Team if they have the chance.

Given that Guillermo Ochoa has been the starter goalkeeper since winning the race to José de Jesús Corona for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, a lot of goalkeepers have had to wait for having a chance just to being called to El Tri, even if they have to watch the games from the bench.

One of the most recent cases is the one of Carlos Acevedo, as the 25-year-old Santos Laguna goalkeeper has been one of the most regular goalkeepers in Liga MX, but Martino hasn’t given him the chance. Outside of a friendly match, as Ochoa won’t be leaving his role anytime soon, even if mistakes are recurrent with him.

Will Carlos Acevedo retire from Mexico National Team?

Acevedo has said in the past that he’s willing to wait for his moment and for now he’ll keep preparing harder and defending Santos Laguna goal until Martino decides to give him a chance. But that is not the case for other goalkeepers, like Anthony Ramos.

Who is Anthony Ramos?

The 18-year-old goalkeeper was born in California in a Mexican Household, which is why he could play for either US Soccer MNT or El Tri, although he has been part of the Bars and Stripes academy teams, since he joined the U-16 squad. He currently plays for the U-20 squad although he still has the chance to play for El Tri as he has yet to debut with the senior squad.

Ramos is also known as the “Mexican Neuer”, and although he started in the academy teams of LA Galaxy, he now plays for Portuguese side Real SC, on the Portuguese third flight, where he’s on a loan for the current season from Moreirense FC.
