Carlos Vela surprised everyone when he announced on an interview with ESPN that he decided to step down from Mexico National Team and officially retire to give the younger generations the chance of helping El Tri get to the fifth game in a World Cup.
Martino ignores him but FC Barcelona is trying to acquire this Mexican player
Although he knows that the new generations have more chances of achieving that goal, Vela also knows that he still has two or three more years of a high-leveled performance and could be the experience the youngsters need to finally reach the quarterfinals in Qatar 2022.
But Gerardo Martino never called Vela since he arrived in El Tri’s dugout, as he considered he didn’t have the skills that Martino likes in their players, but also because he implemented a strict level of discipline that Vela couldn’t stand.
Reports suggest that both Martino and Vela had some conversations about his potential return to Mexico National Team, but the Argentinean coach couldn’t give in to Vela’s requests of having his family around in El Tri’s camp and taking some time off.
This player could be Vela’s replacement in Mexico National Team
