This week the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers return to action with all participating teams having a mathematical chance of qualifying for Qatar 2022.

The first series of matches is scheduled to be played on Thursday, January 27, and the last matches of the FIFA Date will be held on Wednesday, February 2. The CONCACAF qualifiers will resume on March 24 and will conclude on March 30.

Mexico is in third place with 14 points, the same number of points as Panama, which is in fourth place but with a lower goal difference than El Tri.

What is the scenario for the Mexican national team heading to Qatar 2022?

After losing their last two qualifying matches (vs. the United States 2-0 and vs. Canada 2-1), 'Tata' Martino's El Tri must return to winning ways to avoid risking their ticket to Qatar 2022.

Unlike Canada and the USA, the Mexican national team will play high-level matches on this FIFA Date against Panama and Costa Rica at the Azteca Stadium, as well as a previous trip to Jamaica. Should El Tri manage to win its three matches, it could return to the top of the standings, but it would depend on the results of the United States and Canada.

Could the Mexican national team secure its place in Qatar 2022 on this FIFA date?

The Mexican national team aspires to finish the FIFA Date with 23 points, which would bring it closer to Qatar but would not assure a direct ticket, regardless of whether Panama loses its matches against Mexico, Costa Rica, and Jamaica. The Aztecs would have to wait until March to seal their participation in world soccer's biggest event.
