Even if he hadn’t played with Mexico National Team since they were eliminated in Russia 2018 by Brazil National Team in the round of 16, people were still expecting for Carlos Vela to wear El Tri colors again, especially for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

And given the situation in which El Tri currently is, where they haven’t been able to find a striker that can find the net, rumors about his return for the upcoming CONCACAF Qualifiers match window were stronger than ever.
That’s why a couple weeks ago he decided to answer the question, to which he said his time had already passed and he won’t play again for El Tri, opening the door to the younger generations to take the lead and help the Aztec squad reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
Criticism about his lack of commitment didn’t take long to fill social media, as people took it as a sign of his despise for Mexico National Team, something he’s been questioned in the past too, but after he decided, it seems almost impossible that he will change his mind.
Carlos Vela is focused on playing his fifth season with Los Angeles FC, and they started their journey to finally become MLS champions in the 2022 MLS Season, as they received Colorado Rapids in Banc of California Stadium in the season opener.
Vela only needed 50 minutes to score his first hat-trick of the season, showing that his committed with LAFC in what could be his last season wearing the Black & Gold colors, as his contract ends at the end of the season and they haven’t talked about renewing his contract.
Although he’s said that he’s happy in Los Angeles and would like to play many more years with them, Vela has two options if this ends up being his last season with LAFC. The first one is returning to Europe, as he knows he still has 2 or 3 more years playing at a high level. If he can’t return to Europe, his second option is playing for Inter Miami FC, in the MLS, as Miami seems like a good fit for him and his family.
