Carlos Vela hasn’t played a single game with Mexico National Team since the 2018 FIFA World Cup, when El Tri was eliminated in the round of 16 by Brazil. Since then, either he refused to wear El Tri colors again or the coach didn’t consider him.
If Nicolás Larcamón arrives in Mexico National Team, he knows what to do with Guillermo Ochoa
Prior to the last World Cup Qualifiers match window, Carlos Vela announced his retirement from El Tri, alleging that his time has passed and that he opened the doors to the younger generations to achieve what he couldn’t while being in the Aztec squad.
But some soccer analysts and sports journalists agree that Carlos Vela is still willing to come out of retirement and wear El Tri colors again, although that won’t happen as long as Gerardo “Tata” Martino remains in the Aztec squad’s dugout.
And given the lack of goals that the Mexican national team has showed in the past year, added to the irregular results that Martino has had in the same span of time, they’re considering having a change in the dugout and hire a new coach prior Qatar.
According to reports, Miguel Herrera is the coach that FMF is considering having as the replacement of Gerardo Martino, as he already knows what it means to arrive in the last few months of the process prior a World Cup.
“El Piojo” first arrived in El Tri in 2013, when El Tri was on the brink of elimination from the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Luckily, Herrera was able to secure a playoffs pot and beat New Zealand for the last ticket to Brazil 2014.
He also was the coach that convinced Carlos Vela to return to the Mexican national team after the World Cup, as he refused to be part of the squad that played the Qualifiers, something that he’ll try to do once again for Qatar 2022.
After becoming World Champion with the U-17 squad in 2005, Carlos Vela debuted with the senior squad in September of 2007 on a friendly game against Brazil that ended in a 3-1 defeat for El Tri. Since then, he’s had 72 caps, where he’s scored 19 goals and assisted on 9 times.
He couldn’t handle the pressure against USMNT and is ready to step down from Mexico National Team
