Carlos Salcedo was one of Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s favorite players, but he hasn’t been on any calls for Mexico National Team after the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, as he was involved in a fight with Jorge Theiler, his assistant coach.
Gerardo Martino finally will stop calling Luis “Chaka” Rodríguez to Mexico National Team
But after it was leaked that “El Titán” apologized to Theiler, the possibility of his return to El Tri has become real, especially because the Aztec squad needs to strengthen their defense, given that neither Julio César “Cata” Domínguez nor Héctor Moreno have the level to play for Mexico.
Gerardo Martino has been asked about his possible return, to which he’s said that it might happen as long as Salcedo is in optimal shape and based on his regularity with his team. So far, He’s been a starter for Toronto FC, as he was requested by Bob Bradley.
But that wouldn’t be the only condition that Martino will place for a potential return of Salcedo to Mexico National Team, as he knows that the central defender needs to change his behavior to become a real asset instead of being a liability.
Salcedo is known for his lack of discipline both in and outside the pitch, as he’s usually sent off given his indiscipline, something that he will have to change for ben considered by the Argentine coach for the next FIFA match window.
If Salcedo wants to be in the roster that will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador, he will also have to prove that he can stay out of scandals, as he needs to be fully focused on what happens on the pitch. Finally, he will have to apologize to his teammates.
The 28-year-old joined Toronto FC at the end of January, and so far, he was part of the starting XI of the Reds during their preseason games before finally debuting in the 2022 MLS Season last weekend, when he played the 90 minutes on the 1-1 draw against FC Dallas.
