Canada's national team is not giving up and wants to try to 'steal' from Mexico Marcelo Flores, a youth striker from England Premier League club Arsenal. The young player made his debut with the Tricolor last year in the friendly against Chile and who can still play for the Maple Leafs.
The Mexican will be included in a list of players that John Herdman will have at his disposal in the following weeks to observe some of the players in preparation for the CONCACAF qualifiers against Honduras, the United States and El Salvador.
Although Flores has already played minutes with Mexico's senior national team, El Tri has not yet managed to sign him, as he will have to play at least three matches, which is why Canada can still convince him to defend the country where he was born.
El Chelo, as the young player is known, has defended Mexico's jersey for a couple of years when he was U16, and now with the U20 he was the star of the Revelations Cup tournament under the orders of Luis Perez. His performances brought him to Tata's Tri to face Chile in Austin on December 8.
This is not the first attempt by Canada to take Marcelo, in the past they also placed him in different pre-lists to try to convince him. It has been a long time since the player has worn the jersey of that country.
In the eight minutes he played with the Mexican national soccer team, he left a good impression on Gerardo Martino, who after that performance has considered taking him to the qualifying games, taking into account the different absentees that the Mexican team may have for the games against Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panama.
After a brilliant performance in the national team, the young player does not rule out the possibility of going to the World Cup. In an interview with TUDN, he made it clear that it is one of his goals.
"My dream is to reach the senior national team. I am in the U-20 process. For whatever comes I'm ready, if they call me I'm ready, but I'm now in the U-20 process and I'm happy. It is not impossible to go to the World Cup, we are improving every day. The group is very good, with very good coaches".
