Mexico National Team is still looking for a striker that can complement Raúl Jiménez or substitute him whenever he’s not available, as it happened on the past FIFA match window, when neither Rogelio Funes Mori nor Henry Martín were able to fill Jiménez’s shoes.

It’s yet to see which strikers Gerardo “Tata” Martino will call for the last CONCACAF Qualifiers match window, as there hasn’t been anyone that is on a scoring streak other than Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, and his return to El Tri looks complicated.

Santiago Giménez could be one of the options that Gerardo Martino could have to renew the position, as the 20-year-old is slowly becoming an essential player for Cruz Azul, as he already scored two goals and assisted one time in the last three games La Máquina has played.

But outside those two players, there’s no other solid obvious option, which tells a lot about the current situation of Mexican soccer, but also is an opportunity to look in other places and give young talents the chance, as a generational change in El Tri is much needed.

Which young player could arrive in El Tri?

Although he’s just 15 years old, Bayern Munich already has Cruz Medina on his radar and even invited him to train with them a few weeks ago, although his economic rights currently belong to San Jose Earthquakes, from MLS, where he’s part of their academy teams.

In Germany they already know of his talent, which is why they are already monitoring his development, something that Mexico National Team hasn’t start doing yet, as Cruz Medina hasn’t been part of any callings for the academy teams.

Can he play for Mexico National Team?

Medina Cruz holds both Mexican and American nationalities, which is why can play for either one of them, although for now he’s inclined to play for USMNT, as he’s been part of the U-17 squad in recent months, as the Quakes shared in social media.

He still has the option of playing for the Aztec squad, as both of his grandparents were born in Mexico and hasn’t debuted in an official match for the Bars and Stripes, which leaves the possibility for El Tri for convincing him to wear Mexico National Team colors.
