Mexico National Team will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador in the last CONCACAF Qualifiers with the task of earning at least 4 more points to ensure their presence in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, something that seems doable.
The most difficult match of the window is the one that will be held in Estadio Azteca on Thursday night, when El Tri receives USMNT, not only because they haven’t been able to beat them in over two years, but also because the winner will be the second team of CONCACAF to earn their ticker to Qatar 2022.
The games against Honduras and El Salvador are looking to be easy wins, given that both teams are already eliminated from the contest and if El Tri wins against the Stars and Stripes, those games could be used as a showcase for the players that are not usually in the starting XI.
But regardless of the outcome, Gerardo “Tata” Martino already presented his resignation letter, after the defeat against Canada, and FMF is still considering parting ways with him, as there’s a coach that’s better suited for El Tri’s expectations ready to take over, and all thanks to Alejandro Irarragorri.
It’s no lie to say that Alejandro Irarragorri has become one of the most important Liga MX owners in the past few years, as he’s helped both Santos Laguna and Atlas win Liga MX since he bought the teams with Grupo Orlegi.
That’s why he has the voice to suggest changes not only in El Tri but also inside the Mexican Football Federation. For now, he knows that Miguel Herrera is a better option for Mexico National Team than Gerardo Martino.
Although “El Piojo” is currently coaching Tigres, who have become one of the best teams in Clausura 2022, if the opportunity of arriving in El Tri presented, he’ d return to coach them, just like he did for Brazil 2014.
