Liga MX activity has begun and first division clubs are still looking for new signings to strengthen their roster for the Clausura 2022. Club América has closed the signing of Alejandro Zendejas, former Necaxa player.

After the departure of Sebastián Córdova, the Argentinean tactician was looking for a player to contribute to the offensive and defensive tactics, so he paid attention to the individual work of Zendejas. During the Guardianes México Apertura 2021, the 23-year-old player stood out with Rayos de Necaxa and was one of the club's most important players.

Who is Alejandro Zendejas?

Alejandro Zendejas Saavedra is a professional soccer player formed in Major League Soccer (MLS) and has dual nationality. He is a Mexican-American player. Although he was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, he moved to the United States at a young age to seek an opportunity to dedicate himself to soccer.

When he was around 14 years old, he joined the Dallas Football Club youth academy and began his soccer training there. Zendejas showed his intention to become a professional soccer player and gradually he was considered to join the youth teams.

In Dallas, he played in the U-15, U-17, and U-20, over the years he was considered to participate in the first team. By 2014 he had his first call to participate in the Major League Soccer; a year passed and he did not see any minutes with the Dallas jersey, until his debut came in May 2015 in the match against Houston Dynamo.

Stage at Chivas de Guadalajara

His talent caught the attention of Matías Almeyda, who was the head coach of Chivas from 2015 to 2018. The rebaño's coach approached Zendejas to sign him with the Guadalajara club. Matías saw Alejandro Zendejas' work at the 2016 Chivas International Cup.

As soon as Dallas finished its participation in the Cup, Matías Almeyda approached the Mexican-American player and signed him as a reinforcement for the 2016 Apertura. During his time with the Rebaño Sagrado, he did not have the expected activity and by June 2017 he went out on loan to Atlético Zacatepec of the Liga de Ascenso; his loan was with the objective of gaining experience in Mexican soccer.

In 2018 he finished his time in the promotion league and had more participation at Chivas, but the scenario changed again for Zendejas as Almeyda left the head coach's office, and with that Alejandro Zendejas also left the Perla Tapatía.

The last time he wore the rojiblanca jersey was in 2020, throughout his career he participated in 23 games and scored one goal.

Necaxa's season

Then he became the reinforcement of the 'hidrocálidos' where he became one of the most relevant players of the institution. He arrived to play in the Guardianes 2020 and despite the complications due to the COVID-19, he was one of the most outstanding players of the club.

He even had his first call-up to Gerardo Tata Martino's Mexican national team in October 2021. América has finally closed the transfer by buying the player from Necaxa.
