Following the violence that took place on Saturday, March 5 at the match between Querétaro and Atlas in the 9th round of Mexican soccer, where so far 26 people have been injured, many of them in critical condition, FIFA and CONCACAF issued statements on the matter.
This is one of the sanctions that the government of Querétaro would apply to Los Gallos
Both organizations did not delve too deeply into the issue and wrote a short communiqué condemning the violence and urging the authorities to treat the actions that took place at La Corregidora, the home stadium of the Gallos Blancos de Querétaro, with the severity they deserve.
"FIFA is appalled by the tragic incident that occurred at La Corregidora stadium in the city of Queretaro during the match between Queretaro and Atlas. The acts of violence at the Corregidora stadium are unacceptable and intolerable.
FIFA joins the Mexican Football Federation and CONCACAF in condemning this despicable incident and encourages the local authorities to bring swift justice to those individuals responsible. Our thoughts are with all those who suffered its consequences.
Once again, FIFA wishes to stress that violence has no place in soccer and we will continue to work with all parties involved to eradicate it from our sport."
"The shocking acts of vandalism and violence that occurred last night in Queretaro, Mexico have no place in soccer or society. The thoughts of everyone at Concacaf are with the victims of these terrible events and their families.
Concacaf totally condemns this type of behavior. We call on local authorities to fully investigate these criminal acts and hold accountable those who have tainted our game.
The Confederation also believes that strong sporting sanctions should be applied and will provide the necessary support to the FMF and Liga MX as they investigate."
