Carlos Vela is a player that just by himself can make the crowd start supporting one team, like he did when he arrived in Los Angeles FC back in 2018, as he was an essential piece in the establishment of the big fandom that the Black & Gold now have.

The addition of Vela as the first player of the franchise and a Designated Player for the past four season have helped LAFC also helped build the rivalry that exists with LA Galaxy, as El Tráfico has become one of (if not) the biggest Clásicos in MLS.
And at 33, Vela still has at least a couple more years playing at a top level, as he’s showed in the recent performances of LAFC, given that he scored a hat-trick on the first game of the current season and is a constant threat that opens spaces for his teammates to resolve the games.
With only less than six months left on his contract, Vela is becoming one of the players to follow, as he might not stay with LAFC for the rest of the season, and Club América knows that this is their chance to rebuild their roster around a player like Vela, just like LAFC did five years ago.
Daniel “Ruso” Brailovsky will arrive in Club América to start a rebuilding process after the failures of Santiago Solari as coach and Santiago Baños as chairman, which opens the door to have Carlos Vela in Las Águilas for the next season.
Brailovsky knows that currently Las Águilas lacks two essential thing that were part of the Americanismo back in the day: the connection with the stands of Estadio Azteca and the acquisition of big names that not only will help them on the pitch but also economically.
That’s why he believes “El Bombardero” is the player that Club América needs to return to those bases lost since Baños took over. Vela knows of the interest and is willing to arrive in El Nido if he can earn at least the same salary he had with LAFC until last season, along other requests like a house in the outskirts of Mexico City with the newest technological gadgets.
Reports suggest that when LAFC renewed his contract for the first semester of 2022, they reduced his salary from $6 million to $3.8 million that can go up to $4.5 million with add-ons. América might have a hard time paying him $6 million, but they might be able to do if Guillermo Ochoa doesn’t extend his contract, as the Mexico international goalkeeper currently earns $4.5 million.
