Since his arrival to Cruz Azul prior the start of Clausura 2022, Uriel Antuna has become one of the best players that Juan Reynoso has on his squad, showing the talent that placed him in Manchester City U-23 squad are still there.
Juan Reynoso doesn’t think that Santiago Giménez is the future of Cruz Azul
Reynoso showed what a good of a strategist he is, as he knew that Cruz Azul lacked a player like Antuna to be able to contend not just for Liga MX but also for the CONCACAF Champions League and given that Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado was no longer an asset for La Máquina -but could be for another team- decided to trade with Chivas for Antuna.
Since his arrival in Cruz Azul, Antuna has played the nine games that La Máquina has had so far, although in their last game against Club Puebla was the first time that he didn’t do it in the starting XI, given the tight schedule they have, which is why Reynoso decided to save him for the game against Montréal CF.
Chivas followers are still questioning why Uriel Antuna didn’t perform like that during the two years that he wore Chivas colors, as he showed flashes of that talent from time to time, but never as regularly as he is doing with Cruz Azul, as he was more involved in scandals.
Amaury Vergara must feel frustrated given that when Chivas decided to acquire him, they had to pay Manchester United $11 million for his permanent transfer, given the good performances he had a year earlier with LA Galaxy, where he played on a loan.
But since his arrival in El Rebaño, Antuna simply couldn’t shine like he did earlier and like he’s doing now with Cruz Azul. The reason has to do with a Chivas player that has started shining now that Antuna left.
The Tamarind Duo, as they self-proclaimed after posting a video drinking tamarind vodka that got them separated from Chivas for a while and that started a series of scandals in which both Uriel Antuna and Alexis Vega were involved, was the reason why he couldn’t shine with El Rebaño.
Although he still is good friends with Alexis Vega, the way they used to bond as Chivas players is what hurt their performance on the pitch, something they already left behind as both are thriving now, although Antuna has regained the level he had prior to his stint with Chivas.
Oribe Peralta will leave retirement to join this Liga MX club
