Tigres took advantage of the fact that two-time champion Atlas was down to 10 men in the first minutes of the match to take all three points on Matchday 4 of the Apertura 2022, thanks to a 2-0 victory at the Universitario Stadium.

The red card for goalkeeper Camilo Vargas ended up opening the door for Miguel Herrera's team to achieve their third consecutive victory of the tournament.

The Colombian goalkeeper made the mistake of covering a shot outside the box with his hands, which ended up costing him the red card just six minutes in, a situation that changed the course of the match.

Tigres had already given signs of opening the scoreboard, but the 1-0 goal was scored thanks to a deflection by defender Anderson Santamaría, who deflected a shot by Jesús Angulo at minute 40.

Before the end of the first half, the Frenchman André-Pierre Gignac appeared inside the box to shoot across the box and make it 2-0 for the Monterrey team, who had no major problem to finish off the match after the goalkeeper was sent off.

Total domination

In the second half, the felines dominated the match, but substitutes Jordy Caicedo and Nicolás López were unable to open the scoring to make the difference even bigger. With the victory, Tigres will finish Matchday 4 of the Apertura 2022 among the first four places in the general standings of the Mexican competition.
