Diego Cocca's team was impeccable in the first half, where defensive order and the association of the forwards when attacking were their best virtues. On the other hand, Tigres searched for the opponent's goal without success, making it look as if Atlas would easily win the match.

In fact, before the end of the match, the Rojinegro team, through former Tigres player Julián Quiñones, took the lead, making the aggregate score 4-0 and thus forcing the Auriazules to look for 4 goals in the second half.

VAR and referee give Tigres a boost

In the second half, Tigres came out aggressively in search of the match and, at minute 50', César Ramos whistled in favor of Miguel Herrera's team for a non-existent penalty and did not use the VAR to corroborate the marking; in the end, Gignac changed the foul for a goal to tie the match and give the Monterrey team hope.

Later, after a great play by Quiñones at minute 59', the Frenchman appeared again to score his brace and turn the match 2-1 and thus seek two more goals to complete the comeback.

Herrera then decided to make changes and Nico López came on for Carlos González and the Uruguayan earned a penalty for Tigres, which had not been scored and, thanks to VAR, the decision was changed. A controversial situation, as César Ramos, the match referee, had not done the same in Tigres' first penalty kick.

Gignac took it again and changed it back to a goal, and with that, the Auriazules were only looking for one more goal to advance to the final and still had 18 minutes of play plus the added time decided by the referee.

Finally, the home team's central defender, Igor Lichnovsky, scored the fourth goal at minute 81' after a header from Guido Pizarro's cross to make the stadium explode and dream of the final.

VAR gives, VAR takes away

In added time, with Atlas already surrendered, Jesús Angulo, a former Atlas player, brought down Diego Barbosa of the Rojinegro team in the area, and again, the referee went to the VAR to review the play and confirm the penalty.

Atlas captain Aldo Rocha converted the penalty and thus gave the team a place in the final, after making the match 4-2 and in the added time, winning 5-4.
