Carlos Salcedo is very close to leaving for Toronto FC of the MLS and the Canadian club is already talking to Tigres about a player exchange to give the defender a chance, as the Monterrey club liked Yeferson Soteldo and are close to adding him to the squad, according to Mediotiempo.
Both clubs have yet to define the amount of money they will pay for the Titan and the Venezuelan player, who is the element that Tigres want to add to its squad.
The operation is expected to be solved in the next 48 hours and Salcedo will finally leave the club, where he requested to leave in the current transfer market after not wanting to renew his contract, which expires in December 2022.
Toronto wants the 28-year-old defender as a designated player and he will take the place left by Soteldo at the Canadian outfit, regardless of the fact that Lorenzo Insigne will have that tag when he joins in the summer.
MLS rules allow three designated players and in the case of wanting to add more players, the club has to pay a registration fee. The Toronto FC roster designated players would be Jozy Altidore, Carlos Salcedo, and Alex Pozuelo if the trade is confirmed.
The Mexican international could join Italian Lorenzo Insigne, as the Napoli player recently signed his contract to play for the Canadian side. The European international champion is set to join the MLS outfit in the summer. The former Pescara player will play for Napoli until the end of the season. Currently, the Italian playmaker was injured just a day after confirming his arrival at Toronto FC.
With the addition of the Napoli player, Lorenzo Insigne to the club could make the negotiations easier for Tigres UANL and Carlos Salcedo. The Mexican team believes that selling the center-back right now is better than waiting for the player's contract to expire. On the other hand, Carlos Salcedo is evaluating his options as he has other offers from other teams but Toronto’s one seems a good option for the Guadalajara native.
The intention of Bob Bradley's team is to put together a squad to fight for MLS, CONCACAF Championships, and to attend the Club World Cup. The ambitious projects of the team plus the arrival of Insigne may be decisive in Carlos Salcedo's decision.
