It seems like things in Club América are finally starting to work with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz as their coach, as for the first time in Clausura 2022 they were able to play at a high level throughout the 90 minutes on their 3-0 victory over Club Toluca.

Fernando Ortíz did in 45 minutes what Santiago Solari couldn’t do in 8 games with Club América

It was the second victory of the season for Las Águilas, as they also won against Santos Laguna by a 3-2 score on round 5 of Clausura 2022, but it was the first win they earned in Estadio Azteca, not only in the season but in the past 5 months.

The system that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz is implementing during the week finally paid off, not only because the players looked more comfortable with their teammates, but also because the things that are practiced influenced in the victory, like the second goal that arrived in a free kick.

Most of the players were in sync which helped to end the game after just 17 minutes, when they scored the third goal, and even if Roger Martínez, Diego Valdés and Alejandro Zendejas were the scorers, it was another player who orchestrated the outstanding performance of Las Águilas.

Who is the player that stood out the most?

According to the statistics, Richard Sánchez was the player that had a better performance, not only because he was the player that run more distance, but also because he connected perfectly with Álvaro Fidalgo and was the main creator for Las Águilas.

His outstanding performance is even more surprising given that with Santiago Solari, the Paraguayan midfielder was erased not only from the starting XI, but from the squad at all, as he preferred to start Pedro Aquino.

Henry Martín was never able to focus

Although it was a great result prior the FIFA match window, not every player of Las Águilas was able to show why they were considered by “Tano” Ortíz to start for Club América, as Henry Martín’s performance keeps raising questions.

The Mexico international had at least two clear plays to add to the score but his lack of confidence was notorious, as he couldn’t beat Toluca’s goalkeeper. His poor performance arrives at the worst moment, as he was called by Martino to play with Mexico National Team in what could be his last chance of proving to be a good addition for El Tri.
