Even if Chivas have lost just one of their last 5 games, only one of those games has been a victory, which are not the best numbers given that two of the draws they have were against Club América and Atlas, and both Clásicos were winnable for El Rebaño.
Marcelo Michel Leaño will renew his contract with Chivas no matter what happens in Clausura 2022
But in both draws was noticeable the fact that Marcelo Michel Leaño doesn’t have a structured plan to face the 90 minutes, as he keeps experimenting with his starting XI and after he realizes that things are not working for him, he changes the plan midgame, and the team ends up losing their shape.
Amaury Vergara knows that having Michel Leaño on the dugout for more time than the current season will hurt Chivas aspirations of becoming real contenders in Liga MX, which is why even if he’s planning on keeping the Mexican coach in El Rebaño structure, he’s looking to have a new coach for next season.
According to reports, Vergara is considering having Matías Almeyda back in El Rebaño, not only because he was the last coach that won a title with Chivas and had a real project, but also because he feels a strong connection with the team and their followers.
Almeyda currently is still under contract with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, although he’s on his last year, which will mean that either Chivas waits until December to have him for free, or will have to negotiate with the Quakes, as Almeyda requested a special clause on his contract saying that only Chivas or any national team was able to negotiate his departure.
The second thing that he’ll ask to return to El Rebaño is having complete control over the sporting decisions, something that happened during his first stint in Chivas and what he’s been lacking with the Quakes, as he hasn’t been backed up with the additions he’s requested.
But in having complete control in the decisions, it also implies that he will clean the locker room of the players that haven’t been up to standards, the ones that haven’t found regularity or don’t seem to feel Chivas colors.
Although the list could be longer, the three players that Almeyda already knows that have to leave Chivas, at least on a loan to gain regularity elsewhere, are Antonio Briseño, César Huerta and Cristian “Chicote” Calderón.
Alexis Vega: these are the teams that could sign him, one in Europe and another in Mexico
