Since Santiago Solari left Club América, Las Águilas have become one of the strongest teams in Liga MX, especially since they now have won six straight games and are on pace to become one of the four teams that access directly to Liguilla.

Club América is after Henry Martín’s replacement for next season

Club América knew that they could become contenders for Liga MX in Clausura 2022, as they were the best team just one season before, although they needed to be wakened up to return to the outstanding performances and overwhelming their rivals.

Fernando “Tano” Ortíz managed to do that after a couple of games, as he couldn’t beat CF Monterrey on his first game with Las Águilas. After that game, Club América saved a draw against Chivas and later beat 3-0 Toluca in what would mean the start of their unbeaten streak.

Now, Club América arrives at the end of the regular season as one of the most dangerous teams, the one that every other club wants to avoid in Liguilla, especially after the 2-0 victory over Tigres, who had been one of the most powerful teams of the season.

Diego Valdés is behind the success of Las Águilas

It took a few games for “El Tano” Ortíz to find the perfect starting XI of Las Águilas, but once he did, there hasn’t been any team able to stop them. Much of the current success has to do with the offensive players he places in the lineup and the freedom that they have on the pitch.

One of those players is Diego Valdés, who has become the heart of the Azulcrema offense, as he is not only involved on the ending of the plays, but also in the creation and distribution of the ball, which has helped others, like Alejandro Zendejas and Roger Martínez to be more involved in the score sheet.

According to reports from sports journalist Jonatan Peña, the success of Valdes is related to the fact that he is one of the players that trains the most, as he keeps training in Las Águilas facilities long after the sessions have ended, and his teammates left.

Diego Valdés’s numbers with Club América

The 28-year-old Chilean offensive midfielder arrived at Club América for Clausura 2022 after becoming the best player in Santos Laguna. So far, he’s played 14 games wearing Las Águilas colors, starting on 12 of them. The Chile international has scored five goals as well as four assistances.
