Chivas will finish the season with Ricardo Cadena as their coach after Amaury Vergara understood that Marcelo Michel Leaño was going to keep hurting El Rebaño’s aspirations in Liga MX, but once Clausura 2022 is over, Chivas will have a new coach.
Liga MX: Chivas ready for the arrival of Juan Carlos Osorio?
Before getting promoted to the first team, Ricardo Cadena was coaching CD Tapatío, Chivas’ reserves team that currently plays in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight, where he had good performances and helped the Guadalajara team to reach Liguilla.
Now in El Rebaño Sagrado, Cadena will have three more games to help them stay in the 12th spot or above, as one of the objectives for the season is to play at least Repechaje. For now, Chivas are standing 11 thanks to the 1-0 victory over Cruz Azul last weekend.
Given the few time that is left on the season, instead of hiring a new coach now, Vergara will take the remainder weeks of Clausura 2022 to find the perfect coach, although everything’s pointing towards Matías Almeyda, who resigned this weekend from San José Earthquakes.
Matías Almeyda was the last coach that give Chivas a championship. In fact, in the three years he coached El Rebaño, he won five titles, including a Liga MX in 2017 and a CONCACAF Champions League in 2018.
Almeyda hasn’t hidden the love he feels for El Rebaño and has said multiple times that he’d like to return for a second stint, and now that that moment is closer than ever, he already has a plan to help them return to Liga MX’s front pages.
For the Argentine coach is evident that there’s still a lot of work to do with the current roster, which is why he’s requesting at least three players to join him for next season, starting with Eduardo “Chofis” López, as Chivas needs a striker.
To accompany “Chofis”, Carlos Fierro will be the second addition, as he knows that Chivas needs more competition on offense. And finally, given that Raúl Gudiño will leave at the end of the season, Almeyda wants to have Rodolfo Cota back in El Rebaño, as he gave Chivas a solidity on the goal that has been lacking in recent years.
