José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona got injured during the warmups prior to the game against CF Montréal in the second leg of the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, an issue that will keep him sidelined for at least three weeks.

Cruz Azul already found the player that will replace Brayan Angulo if he leaves

His place for now will be taken by Sebastián Jurado, who arrived in Cruz Azul in 2019 after having a breakout season with the extinct Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, but since then, he’s had to wait for his chance, given that Corona has kept playing at a high level.

His injury gave Jurado a bigger opportunity to show himself, as he’s been a starter in Clausura 2022 given the tight schedule that La Máquina has and the need for Reynoso to implement a rotation system that gives rest to all his players.

But given the mistakes he’s had in the few games he’s had, a product of the inactivity and his lack of regularity, La Máquina has started thinking in the future and are looking for a potential replacement that competes with Jurado once Corona retires.

Who is the goalkeeper that Cruz Azul wants?

According to reports, Raúl Gudiño is one of the goalkeepers that La Máquina is considering as a potential replacement for Corona, given that he has the experience needed not only in Liga MX but also in Europe, as he played for different teams like Porto FC, União Madeira and Apoel FC.

His arrival to La Máquina is possible given that Gudiño is on the last months of his contract and is not planning on renewing with Chivas, his current team, given the situation that El Rebaño is going through, as he knows they won’t compete for anything with Marcelo Michel Leaño as their coach.

His decision of not renewing has resulted in him losing his protagonist role in Michel Leaño’s starting XI, as he’s been benched for the past three games, including the Clásico Tapatío, as a way to pressure him into renewing his contract if he wants to have regularity.

Gudiño’s numbers with Chivas

Raúl Gudiño arrived in El Rebaño in 2018, but he hasn’t had the regularity he’d wanted to have given that he had to share the goal with Antonio Rodríguez, who left this season to join Club Querétaro. So far, Gudiño has played 8 games in Clausura 2022, keeping just one clean sheet while receiving 14 goals.
