Cruz Azul still aspires to win the two tournaments they’re playing on this season, as they still have a chance to beat Pumas in Estadio Azteca next week to access the final of CONCACAF Champions League and in Liga MX, they currently are fourth.

José de Jesús Corona will leave Cruz Azul at the end of the season thanks to Juan Reynoso

With five games left in Clausura 2022 and at least one more in CONCACAF, La Máquina still has to face Pumas -twice, one game in the CCL and one in Liga MX-, Chivas and Club América, as well as Querétaro and Atlético San Luis.

Juan Reynoso knows that they can win all of the games they have left in the schedule, even if they are tight in the offense, as Cruz Azul decided to part ways with Brayan Angulo, who asked for his contract to be rescinded.

But even if they manage to win most of the games, Reynoso knows that Cruz Azul needs a new striker for next season, as they’re also in danger of losing Santiago Giménez, who has gathered interest from La Liga side RCD Espanyol.

Who is the striker that Reynoso wants?

Since Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez left at the start of the season, Reynoso has suffered to find a striker that can replace the production that the Uruguayan had during his stint with La Máquina, as neither Brayan Angulo nor Santiago Giménez have been able to constantly score.

Even the addition of the 22-year-old Chilean striker Iván Morales has been fruitful, as he hasn’t been able to score in Liga MX and only has assisted once in CCL. That’s why Reynoso wants to acquire Juan Ignacio Dinenno from Pumas.

Although Dinenno hasn’t been able to score in Liga MX as he used to in past seasons, he’s become the top scorer of Los Universitarios in CONCACAF Champions League, where he’s scored five goals in four games, including the brace that give Pumas the advantage in the semifinals against Cruz Azul.

Dinenno’s numbers with Pumas

Juan Dinenno joined Pumas in 2020 out of Deportivo Cali for a transfer fee of $4.2 million. Since then, the 27-year-old Argentine forward has finally found stability in his career, as he’s played 80 games for Pumas, where he’s scored 34 goals and assisted 6 times.
