Chivas have won just three games in the current season, which is why they've stuck in the middle of the table of Clausura 2022, as they haven't managed to climb to the top part of the standings even if they've had the opportunities, like the Clásico Nacional or the Clásico Tapatío.
What Chivas is asking for the permanent move of Alexis Vega
That has made that El Rebaño followers ask for the dismissal of Marcelo Michel Leaño, who hasn't been able to establish a solid long-term project and instead has experimented with the starting lineup since his arrival, something that everyone has criticized.
It seemed like Amaury Vergara was the only one that didn't realize that as long as Michel is in Chivas' dugout, El Rebaño won't have any chances to become s real contender for Liga MX. The numbers of Michel Leaño's stint don’t lie, and after the Clásico Tapatío, he's been able to win just five games out of the 20 games he’s coached.
That's why Vergara and Ricardo Peláez have started looking for a replacement, someone that will arrive prior the start of the 2022-23 season since they will let Michel Leaño end the season as Chivas coach. That doesn’t mean that he’ll leave El Rebaño, as they already decided that he will be demoted to the U-20 squad once Clausura 2022 is over.
Although Matías “Pelado” Almeyda is still under contract with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes for the remainder of the 2022 Season, it’s been a while since he hasn’t felt comfortable in the MLS and has been looking to leave.
“Pelado” Almeyda revealed that even if he’s on his last year of contract with San Jose, he can choose when to leave and where to arrive, as he spoke with the Quakes owner to come to an agreement after he declined to coach Chile National Team.
With this news, he opened the door to an eventual return to Liga MX, as he said that “Mexico is always on his future”, giving a hint that he’s considering accepting any offer that arrives from Mexican soccer, except if the team looking for him is Club América.
Matías Almeyda arrived in Liga MX in 2015 after coaching both River Plate and Banfield from the Argentine league. In the three years he was in El Rebaño’s dugout, he coached 104 games, from which he won 35, tied 36 and lost 33.
Although his statistics don’t seem that good, he won five trophies during the three years he coached El Rebaño Sagrado, including two Copa MX titles, one Liga MX title, one Supercopa MX title and the CONCACAF Champions League, the last international title that Chivas won.
Cruz Azul is looking to steal the coach that Chivas wanted to hire for next season
