Santiago Giménez will only leave Cruz Azul to go to Europe, and this team is interested in him

For Clausura 2022, Los Cementeros are still on the pursue to end as one of the top 4 teams of Liga MX to avoid playing Repechaje, something that are achieving so far, as they are standing 4 after 12 games, just below CF Pachuca, Tigres and Club Puebla.

If that wasn’t enough, they still have chances of winning the CONCACAF Champions League, as they will face Pumas in the semifinals, after beating FC Forge in the round of 16 and CF Montréal in the quarterfinals.

But the good results that Reynoso has achieved with La Máquina has gathered the attention of the Peru National Team, who are looking to part ways with Ricardo Gareca, who has coached them since 2015 and helped Peru return to the World Cup in 2018 after 26 years.

Who can replace him?

Since the news about the interest of Peru in Reynoso broke, several coaches have been linked to La Máquina, from Hugo Sánchez, who hasn’t coached since 2012, to Matías Almeyda, who is on his last year of contract with San Jose Earthquakes.

But a new report from ESPN has opened a new possibility, as according to sources, Christian “Chaco” Giménez is also on the radar of Cruz Azul, given that he’s a former player that is related to the institution.

Giménez already has experience coaching in Liga de Expansión, Mexico’s second flight, where he coached Cancún FC, and in Uruguay, where he replaced Diego Forlán as coach of Atenas SAD. For now, he returned to Mexico, where he’s an assistant coach for Gabriel Caballero in Mazatlán FC.

Reynoso will join Peru sooner or later

The Peruvian Football Federation have been negotiating with Reynoso to become their next coach, either after the playoffs if Peru doesn’t qualify to the World Cup, or once the World Cup is done, as they feel like the time of Gareca has already passed.
