Club América is having one of their worst seasons in many years, as they’ve only managed to earn seven points after ten rounds of Clausura 2022 as a result of just one victory, four draws and five defeats, reason why Santiago Solari was sacked.
Sergio “Checo” Pérez wants to have Marcelo Bielsa in Club América
After Solari left Las Águilas, América has played two games, in which Fernando “Tano” Ortíz has been the interim coach, and although the players have said that things are lighter now in the locker room, the truth is that, at least on the pitch, there hasn’t been a significant improvement.
“Tano” Ortíz had less than two months in Club América, where he was coaching the U-20 squad, when he was temporarily promoted to the first team while Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños find the right coach to take over the club.
One of the names that has stood out the most in recent days is the one of Marcelo Bielsa, as the Argentine coach is without a team after he parted ways with Premier League side Leeds United, and given his long resumé, he could be the perfect choice.
Reports suggest that Bielsa is not ready to retire from coaching, which opens the door to a possible return to Las Águilas, club that he coached during the 90s and left a good impression, not only for his work with the first team but also developing the academy squads.
And with his arrival in Club América, he could convince one of the biggest names in Liga MX to arrive with him, as Bielsa knows that something that Las Águilas have been lacking in recent years is a big signing, like the one he could achieve with André-Pierre Gignac.
Gignac is no stranger to Bielsa and his coaching method, as he was his coach during his stint in Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille, as he’s stated in the past that “El Loco” is one of the coaches that has trained for that he admires the most.
This could open the door for a potential reunion between the Argentine coach and the French striker, who has become one of the best additions in Liga MX in years. So far, he’s played 282 games with Los Felinos, scoring 161 goals, and assisting in 39 occasions.
Cruz Azul already found the player that will replace Brayan Angulo if he leaves
